Canoeing at Woodcraft

Canoeing is a great Woodcraft activity because it has a lot to offer for all age groups. The youngest divisions, Outpost and Hadarondahs, start by learning the parts of the canoe and the paddle. They quickly move on to introductory paddling technique. The older campers learn the safe and proper methods of racking a canoe, portaging, performing T-rescues of flipped boats, and advanced paddling.

The bowman and sternman are given for proficiency at paddling in the front and back of the canoe, respectively.
Campers earn patches after they display capability in the various aspects of canoeing and water safety. On trips, we put these skills into practice. Woodcrafters pride themselves in safe and knowledgable canoeing.
